SOFÍA

TABOAS

Sofía Táboas, a virtuoso of space and perception, molds environments that both challenge and charm. Born in Mexico City and educated at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Táboas began sculpting her artistic journey amidst the vibrant cultural ferment of the 1990s, co-founding the avant-garde Temístocles 44. Her artwork serves as a bridge between realms—the natural and the artificial, the intimate and the public.

Utilizing an eclectic palette—from live plants and construction debris to mosaics and fire—Táboas crafts spaces that invite interaction and introspection. Her installations are not mere structures but living scenarios that echo with the possibility of new worlds, floating gardens, and submerged realities, coaxing out the poetic potential of everyday materials.

Influenced deeply by the currents of Arte Povera and Neo-Concretism, her work delves into an archeology of the future, exploring how common materials can dissolve the distances between us and the not-yet-known, weaving the familiar into the fabric of new and unexpected futures. At El Ganzo, Sofía Táboas invites us to step into these transformative spaces, offering a glimpse into the ever-evolving landscapes of art and experience.
